CIC Reacts to 2010 Federal Budget

The 2010 Federal Budget was released on March 4, 2010. The CIC’s reaction to the elements of the budget related to science is:

Besides the comments of the Canadian Consortium for Research (CCR), which the CIC supports, we are pleased with the following elements:

  • $135 million over the next two years to build on the success to date of the cluster initiatives in developing networks of innovative businesses, NRC scientists and communities, promoting regional economic growth through innovation, and levering Canada's investment in research into economic and social benefits for all Canadians.
  • $1 billion over five years under the Clean Energy Fund to support research, development and demonstration of promising clean energy technologies, including carbon capture and storage technologies.
  • $1 billion over five years through the Green Infrastructure Fund for investments in green infscience community’s reaction to the 2010 federal budgetrastructure, including sustainable energy projects.
